No Buzz Around Baseball About This Yet, But…

Baseball Action, Intelligence Reports

If you’re looking at your fantasy league’s standings and noticing that many of the teams have a higher-than-expected ERA, you’re onto something:

Through 4/16, MLB pitchers have a combined ERA of 4.77. In 2008, MLB pitchers had a combined ERA of 4.32.

This is obviously good news for hitters. Through 4/16, MLB hitters have a combined OPS of .767. In 2008, MLB hitters had a combined OPS of .749. The average major league baseball player is on pace for two more home runs than in 2008.

Are the balls juiced again? Who knows? This may be a fluke and perhaps everything will regress. If not, batters would be seeing their best year since 2004, when the steroid news starting blowing up.

If things regress, and pitchers around baseball found their groove, count yourself very lucky if your fantasy team’s pitching ratios are already in good shape. Things may get even better for your team. On the other hand, if you’re lagging behind in hitting despite the big return of offense, hmm, well don’t panic.
