2010 Mock Draft — Round 5 & 6

Basics

Starting to get interesting. Shocking to see some players so much above or below their 2009 draft position…

Round 5:

41. The Sports Banter – Josh Hamilton

42. Hamboners – Javier Vazquez

43. The Devil Wears Prado – B.J. Upton

44. Dan’s Dukie Blasters – CC Sabathia

45. Evil Empire – Curtis Granderson

46. Unruhlies – Brian McCann

47. Beyond the Box Score – Ben Zobrist

48. He Thrills B. Mills – Aaron Hill

49. The Fat and the Furious – Lance Berkman

50. The Juicy Danglers — Robinson Cano

Round 6:

51. The Juicy Danglers — Joey Votto

52. The Fat and the Furious — Felix Hernandez

53. He Thrills B. Mills — Carlos Lee

54. Beyond the Box Score — Jacoby Ellsbury

55. Unruhlies — Nick Markakis

56. Evil Empire — Victor Martinez

57. Dan’s Dukie Blasters — Justin Verlander

58. The Devil Wears Prado — Aramis Ramirez

59. Hamboners — Adam Dunn

60.  The Sports Banter — Alfonso Soriano

Bonus note: Bit of a run on 2b in the fifth round. Not because teams were reacting to what others were doing, of course, but the talent there seems to be better heading into 2010.

Bonus note #2: Some players may seem shockingly high. But you’d be surprised to know that multiple teams were high on those players.

One administrative note: Players must have 20 games already at a position to qualify there next year. (That means Zobrist is either a 2b or outfielder.) That means Brandon Inge and players like him, cough cough, don’t qualify at catcher. If you have any questions, e-mail.

Not sure I trust Hamilton that much, but big time power potential gets scarce after the 2nd/3rd round. I think Soriano is likely to bounce back a bit, but I wonder if the 20-steal seasons are over. Ellsbury is a tremendous value at #54, I think, as his steals are a lot harder to find than RBIs, say, and he’s fine in AVG and Rs.

    Great stuff, guys!

Interesting round(s). You guys really depleted my OF depth chart. Wish Ellsbury would have slid down one more spot, but I’m pretty satisfied with grabbing Nick the Stick where I did.

Best value of the round to my eyes was Aramis Ramirez at #58. I know the shoulder is still questionable, but he was one of the most consistent fantasy producers prior to this season. Third basemen who can be counted on to provide roughly a 30 HR, 100 RBI and a .300 AVG type of a season are a pretty rare commodity.

After learning he would be a member of The Sports Banter, Josh Hamilton goes 7 for his next 8 with four doubles and four rbi’s. I think he likes his new home.

SportsBanter: Trade hin. His value will never be higher.
