Today is the day that major league baseball rosters expand to 40 players. Most fantasy analysts use this occasion to hype the prospects being called up who can provide production in the final month of the season. However, the truth is that almost all of these players will not be getting enough playing time to be worthy of addition in fantasy leagues.
What these players really represent, we fear, is playing time vultures. Especially on ball clubs who have no hope of contending for a playoff spot. They may get into the lineup once or twice a week — and steal at-bats from the superstars who are owned in nearly every league.
It’s especially important for fantasy teams in tight races to keep an eye out on their players who might be sitting more than usual in September. If your team is in a dogfight for RBIs, for instance, losing a few games could potentially make the difference in not winning the league.
Thankfully, in the age of Twitter and blogs, daily lineups are being posted online quicker than ever. It’s now possible for those who compete in leagues that allow you to adjust your lineup daily to take a peak at a major league team’s lineup a few hours before the game begins. A poster on the Rotoworld fantasy baseball forum compiled a list of sources to find lineups. Here (after the jump) are some of the good links provided.
